Restore the Mill and Start The Silent Teeth
A stalled mill, rotating machinery, and a frantic escape stand between Ori and clean water. This Ori and the Will of the Wisps wellspring guide explains how to restore the mechanism and advance The Silent Teeth. Follow this Ori and the Will of the Wisps wellspring walkthrough to find Grapple, solve the circular room, and collect useful items along the route.
When you reach The Wellspring, your quest objective changes to finding what blocks the mill’s mechanism. Start outside the mill by heading left toward a pillar with a purple enemy beneath it.
Drop below the pillar, defeat the enemy, and continue downward. Clear the enemy on the wall, cling to that wall, then combine Double Jump and Dash to reach the hanging pole. Launch farther left and descend toward the purple growth on the western wall.
Destroy that growth to set the machinery in motion. Moving wheels now provide a route back upward.
| Landmark | What to do | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Pillar with an enemy underneath | Drop below it and continue down | Reach the lower approach |
| Wall and hanging pole | Double Jump, Dash, and launch left | Reach the western growth |
| Purple growth | Attack until it is destroyed | Start the gears moving |
| Lantern beside the machinery | Bash through the wheel’s opening | Begin climbing back up |
A good approach is to watch a wheel’s opening before committing to a Bash. Aim through the gap, attach to the blue moss inside, and continue toward the next lantern.
Take the Life Harvest Detour
Once you return to the pillar, you can enter the mill or collect Life Harvest nearby.
For the shard, continue left past the entrance approach and break the wooden wall. Drop down, reach the floating platform, and use Dash and Bash to climb to the upper ground.
From there, descend toward the lower northwest corner and pull the lever. Climb back up, then Bash between the lanterns into the newly opened area to collect Life Harvest.
This Ori and the Will of the Wisps wellspring route separates optional pickups from the main objective, so you can keep progressing when a detour feels awkward.
Find Grapple and Reach the Upper Doorway
Inside the mill, a cutscene introduces the next section. Head right and attack the large glowing purple enemy to activate the blue moss wheels. Use those wheels to climb upward and right.
Another glowing enemy activates a wheel partly submerged in water. Continue through the wheels and poles toward the far-right wall, then climb to the wheel with blue moss.
Shoot the glowing enemy to the northwest to activate another wheel. Use the pole to climb, Dash onto the moving moss wheel, and continue right.
| Route marker | Required action | Nearby opportunity |
|---|---|---|
| Large glowing purple enemies | Attack them to activate wheels | Open the climbing route |
| Descending hanging vine | Ride it while avoiding purple lasers | Dash left for Gorlek Ore |
| Upper wall beside stopped wheels | Climb up and destroy the purple enemy | Check the northeast corner for Spirit Light |
| Lupo’s ledge | Speak with Lupo | Purchase the area map |
| Spirit tree across the water | Absorb its energy | Unlock Grapple |
The hanging vines deserve careful timing. One descends when you grab it, exposing a lower passage. Avoid the purple lasers during the descent, then jump and Dash left when the opening allows it to collect Gorlek Ore.
Return upward and cross the sequence of hanging vines to a stationary blue moss wheel. Continue left, use the horizontal pole to launch upward, and jump again to reach the wall.
Climb and destroy the purple enemy that controls the wheels. Before descending, check the northeast corner for a large Spirit Light container.
With the wheels moving, climb past the flying insect to Lupo’s ledge. His map gives you a clearer view of the area and its branching paths.
Absorb the Spirit Tree’s Energy
Return downward and use the moving wheels to travel left into the newly accessible lower section. Keep heading left; leave the overhead items for later.
Drop through the wooden beam and hop across the water to the spirit tree. Absorb its energy to unlock Grapple.
Grapple is the key movement upgrade in this Ori and the Will of the Wisps wellspring guide. It lets you use hanging blue points and blue moss to reach the doorway Tokk describes.
From Tokk, descend left and Grapple to the hanging point. Dash to the pole, Grapple onto the wheel’s moss, and climb around it. Continue to the next wheel, then use the blue point above to Dash left into the doorway.
Solve the Circle Room and Finish Side Quests
Inside the doorway, a Moki can advance Hand to Hand. If you have the small bag from the earlier trade, give it to the Moki to receive herbs. Your next trading objective becomes finding someone who can use them.
Continue left and descend past the purple lasers onto the moss wheel. Drop through its opening, attach to the inner wheel, and descend through the next gap to the horizontal pole.
Jump left into the arena. Defeat the six creatures there, then continue left to speak with Opher. After that conversation, return right toward the newly accessible section.
Follow the Lever Route
The circle room changes configuration when you pull its levers. For this Ori and the Will of the Wisps wellspring puzzle, follow the available platforms after each change instead of trying to force the original route.
| Stage | Route to follow | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Initial configuration | Go down and cross the two moving moss wheels | Pull the lever on the right |
| After that change | Climb using the wheels to the upper ground, then descend through the center | Dash from the bottom wall to the corner lever |
| Next configuration | Climb around to the right wall and descend | Launch from the moss wheel past the laser to another lever |
| Exit route | Descend the middle passage, then Grapple to ceiling moss | Move right across the wheels to the exit |
After the last lever change, there is an optional Gorlek Ore detour above. Launch upward from the wheel, attach to the wall, and hop left to collect it.
Return to the main route and descend through the central passage. The moss wheel provides protection while you move past the lasers. At the bottom, quickly Grapple to the moss overhead, move right, and cross the spinning wheels toward the exit.
A good approach is to identify the next Grapple surface before dropping. That keeps your attention on the intended route while the machinery moves around you.
Recover Tokk’s Iron Needle
Beyond the circular room, Grapple upward until you can head left. Cross the hanging points without landing on the spikes, continuing toward the glowing purple enemy.
Enter the spinning wheel to the left and climb through it toward the northwest corner. Pick up the Iron Needle, then leave through the doorway and speak with Tokk.
Returning the needle completes The Lost Compass and rewards you with Gorlek Ore.
Another ore lies along a winding Grapple corridor nearby. From Tokk’s area, move right to the stationary moss wheel, then Grapple left into the lower passage and follow it to the pickup.
Survive the Escape and Return to Kwolok
Before triggering the escape, explore the route above Tokk. Grapple between the wheels, head left past the enemy, and drop down on the left. Quickly Grapple across the spikes to collect a Life Cell Fragment.
Return to the previous wheel and climb toward the entrance above Tokk’s doorway. Opher is inside if you want to purchase upgrades.
Continue left to the Spirit Well and save. From this area, head as far right as possible to collect a Mysterious Seed, then return and Grapple upward.
For the final stretch of this Ori and the Will of the Wisps wellspring walkthrough, head right from the upper route to trigger the cutscene and escape.
The chase follows a changing path:
- Move left using Grapple and Dash.
- Descend when the route turns downward.
- Stay inside the falling, spinning wheel until it stops descending.
- Exit the wheel to the right.
- Continue right along the Grapple route until Ori is launched outside.
A good approach is to focus on the next reachable surface. The falling wheel requires you to remain inside until its descent ends, so follow that sequence before attempting the right-hand exit.
Return to Kwolok’s Hollow
After the escape, the objective updates: return to Kwolok in Kwolok’s Hollow.
An optional Gorlek Ore is accessible in the water to the right. Dive through the spinning wheel’s opening and Grapple upward to collect it.
For the return journey, head east to Wellspring Glades and use its Spirit Well to warp to Kwolok’s Hollow. Speak with Kwolok to share the news that the water is flowing again.
Track Collectibles and Plan Your Cleanup
The Ori and the Will of the Wisps wellspring collectibles include spirit shards, cell fragments, Gorlek Ore, and the Mysterious Seed. Some sit beside the main route; others belong to later exploration.
Use this checklist to organize a return visit.
| Collectible | Location or landmark | Access detail |
|---|---|---|
| Life Harvest | Exterior detour near the mill approach | Pull the northwest lever and Bash upward |
| Mysterious Seed | Far-right route near the upper Spirit Well | Collect before triggering the escape |
| Large Spirit Light container | Northeast corner above the wheels activated before reaching Lupo | Check the corner before heading back down |
| Gorlek Ore | Lower passage beside the descending hanging vine | Avoid the purple lasers, then jump and Dash left |
| Gorlek Ore | Detour above the circle room’s final lever route | Launch upward from the wheel, attach to the wall, and hop left |
| Gorlek Ore | Winding corridor near Tokk’s doorway | Grapple left from the stationary moss wheel into the lower passage |
| Gorlek Ore | Water to the right after the escape | Dive through the spinning wheel’s opening and Grapple upward |
| Life Cell Fragment | Across the spikes on the route above Tokk | Head left past the enemy, drop down, and quickly Grapple across |
The source walkthrough places several pickups using screenshots. For those map-dependent locations, consult IGN’s illustrated Wellspring walkthrough and collectible guide to match the pictured entrances and rooms.
Use Your Return Journey for Optional Progress
Grapple also opens an ore pickup on the route back toward Kwolok’s Hollow that was previously inaccessible.
A combat shrine described along the return journey contains four trials of enemy waves. Completing it awards a Shard Slot Upgrade, allowing you to equip more shards.
In Wellspring Glades, Grom’s projects provide another use for your ore. Removing the thorns costs five Gorlek Ore, while rebuilding Moki dwellings costs four.
After the dwellings are rebuilt, speak with the Moki just left of Grom to start Family Reunion. That quest asks you to find the Moki’s family in the Silent Woods.
